Case 39 Movie Review

There’s yet another demonically possessed child in this movie on the new movies list. There seem to be an awful lot of possessed children in movies lately.
“Case 39” stars Renee Zellweger, playing Emily, a social worker who decides to adopt a child who is unquestionably mentally disturbed. Well, she appears to be mentally disturbed.
This new movie release has in fact been released in several European countries but has been on hold in the US since 2006.
The little girl in the movie, Lilith, played by Jodelle Ferland is taken in Zellweger’s home after her foster parents attempt to burn her alive in an oven.
In one of several movie quotes, Ian McShane, who plays a detective says: “What the hell’s the matter with you people?” after finding Lilith.
Lilith seems okay after being nearly burned to death but seems way too smart for her age. She not only can make everyone near her do terrible things but she calls her child psychologist, Doug, played by Bradley Cooper, “smug” and “facile.”
Soon we know that Lilith is the child of the devil. Horrible things happen around her. At one point hornets swarm from her psychologist’s body and swarm over him.
Then Emily starts to listen to Lilith’s foster father, who’s in prison. By now Lilith has killed a lot of people.
Director Christian Alvart really hasn’t done much with this upcoming movie. The screenplay by Ray Wright is just a reminder of all of the other devil child movies around.
Then again, it might fly with the teen audience that doesn’t remember better demonic movies like “The Omen”.
