Friends with Benefits Movie Reivew

New movie release “Friends with Benefits” is a new movie picture that’s not only really funny but shows plenty of chemistry between stars Justin Timberlake (Dylan) and Mila Kunis (Jamie.) These two do a great job with the playful banter in Will Gluck’s new movie, “Friends with Benefits,” the second movie this year covering the same theme. As a matter of fact, Timberlake and Kunis bring a lot of credit to this genre that’s become notably lacking in the past few years, probably due to their likeability. Although the movie does eventually fall prey to the same problems that eventually plague all of the movies in this niche, the attractive leads still make it a winning effort.

Timberlake and Kunis are masters of the banter in the film and you can feel the chemistry between them.
This fresh take is so compelling that audiences will set aside the clichés and just enjoy this bicoastal Screen Gems new release. Gluck quickly gets the action moving, setting up a situation in which Dylan, a media director from L.A., is brought, by Jamie, a headhunter, to New York for a new job. Once in New York, Dylan and Jamie, both recently out of bad relationships, hit it off and end up in bed together – as “Friends with Benefits.” But then emotions start creeping into the relationship.

The script by Keith Merryman and David Newman, to which Gluck contributed, shows that Gluck had a Tracy-Hepburn comedy in mind. Gluck also put a movie within a movie which makes fun of this same genre of film and is a showcase for the talents of Jason Segel and Rashida Jones. It’s unfortunate that “Friends with Benefits” falls prey to some of the same clichés that are joked about in the movie within a movie.
For example, Gluck puts two Flash Mob scenes in the movie – already a cliché. However, he does really get great performances from Timberlake and Kunis. Woody Harrelson also steals a lot of scenes as Timberlakes gay friend as does Patricia Clarkson as Kunis’ ditzy mother. Jenna Elfman is great as Timberlakes older sister. Movie forums are going to be saying that “Friends with Benefits” is a great summer movie!
