New Movie Info on The Amazing Spider-Man

If you are a film lover who likes to glean precious tidbits of pre-release information about your potential favorite flicks in the movie news, then you are in luck: the plot synopsis of Marc Webb’s new The Amazing Spider-Man movie provides some key clues to the latest Marvel adaptation of Peter Parker’s (Andrew Garfield) life story.

According to Sony, Webb’s Spidey reinterpretation is supposedly a new angle on an untold Spider-Man story: how did Peter Parker lose his parents and how did he evolve into the (spider)man he is in 2012? It is a superhero Bildungsroman, meant to give us information on everything about Parker from his first potential love, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), to his quest to discern the truth behind his parent’s disappearance--and why this leads him to Oscorp and Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), also known as The Lizard. And if we are lucky, it will be bursting at the seams with cutting edge action scenes and cool weapons and costumes.

Parker will of course be portrayed as the odd man out--what better way to engender sympathy from the audience? By the end of the film, Sony’s official synopsis (so this is not an official movie review) claims that in The Amazing Spider Man, “Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter ego, The Lizard, [and] Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.” Does this mean that the Sony version will then be the final nail in the Spider-Man film coffin? Only time will tell.

Apparently, Toby MacGuire didn’t do Peter Parker justice the first three times around, but it will ultimately be left to audiences to decide whether Raimi or Webb’s versions of the saga deserve the title of the true Spider-Man story.
