“The Other Guys” is looking to be one of this year’s box office movie successes. Will Ferrell is singlehandedly bringing back the cop action-comedy in this upcoming movie. This Columbia release is looking to be a big box office draw this summer.
Director/writer Adam McKay who has collaborated on several movies with Ferrell including Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby”, has another hit on his hands with “The Other Guys.”
Ferrell’s buddy in this film is Mark Wahlberg. Other members of the movie cast include Michael Keaton, Steve Googan, Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson.
Ferrell plays Detective Allen Gamble and Wahlberg plays Detective Terry Hoitz. These two are overlooked for promotion on a regular basis, not being New York’s Finest. Gamble is happy to hang around the station and do his job in forensics but Hoitz wants to see some action.
Thanks to Gamble’s work, Hoitz finally gets to see that action when they stumble upon a big crime. They both manage to drive their precinct chief, Captain Mauch, played by Keaton, crazy. Mauch moonlights as a a Bed, Bath & Beyond manager.
A smart blend of comedy and action, The Other Guys is the best work we’ve seen by Adam McKay and his writing partner Chris Henchy.
Eva Mendes is great in her role as Gamble’s wife. At one point, Gamble brings Hoitz home to meet the wife he has managed to describe as plain and mousy. Hoitz cannot believe it when this same wife turns out to be the beautiful Mendes.
Mendes also sings the closing song “Pimps Don’t Cry”. She’s very appealing in her role as is the rest of the cast.
“The Other Guys” opens August 6. It’s rated PG-13 and runs for 107 minutes.
“The Other Guys” is going to be getting great movie ratings and reviews so don’t miss a chance to get into the air-conditioning and enjoy this film ASAP.
